Used German performance cars do not all move together. CarGurus price-trend data shows the five models below with asking prices well under where they were a year ago. A lower asking price is not proof of a cheap ownership experience, so each car has one thing to check before you buy. CarGurus tracks advertised prices, not completed sales, and the mix of cars for sale changes over time.

1. Volkswagen Golf Alltrack (2017 and 2019)
What changed: CarGurus puts the average 2019 Alltrack asking price at $17,208, down 12.14% year over year. The 2017 is a different story at $13,237, down only 3.14%, so the drop is concentrated in the later year.
What to check: CarComplaints lists a Volkswagen service action for the 2019 Golf Alltrack that says the front sunroof drains can become blocked with moist debris on some sunroof-equipped vehicles, and that water could leak into the passenger compartment. Look for damp carpet and a musty cabin, and ask the seller about it.

2. Audi A5 Sportback (2021)
What changed: CarGurus puts the average 2021 A5 Sportback asking price at $23,167, down 11.86% year over year. The 2024 model year is down 15.2% at $29,837 if you want something newer.
What to check: Run the VIN through Audi's recall lookup before you shop further. Audi says to enter the 17-digit VIN to see whether any recall or service campaign applies to that car.

3. Audi S4 (2018)
What changed: CarGurus puts the average 2018 S4 asking price at $22,571, down 8.02% year over year. The 2019 S4 is down 2.73% at $28,657.
What to check: Check the vehicle history and VIN for open recalls. We did not find a model-specific problem source we could confirm for this car, so we are not listing one.

4. Porsche Macan (2017 to 2020)
What changed: Every Macan model year from 2017 through 2020 is down more than 10% year over year in CarGurus data: 2017 down 13.59% at $19,196, 2018 down 13.31% at $21,531, 2019 down 11.84% at $25,996 and 2020 down 10.64% at $30,804.
What to check: A Porsche workshop bulletin (Group 3 132/17) covers Macans from 2014 up to 2018 with a complaint of rough running, vibration or engine jerking under load. It says the transfer case was mainly the defective part when drivetrains were checked. Drive the car and ask for transfer case service records.

What changed: CarGurus puts the average 2019 RS 5 Sportback asking price at $40,117, down 10.56% year over year. It is the only RS 5 Sportback model year with trend data shown on that page.

How we picked
We looked at CarGurus year-over-year asking-price data for German performance and enthusiast models and kept model years with a drop of roughly 8% or more, checked October 2026. Where a model year had its own row, we used it instead of a model-wide average. CarGurus data describes advertised cars, not matched sales. A pre-purchase inspection matters more than a percentage on a chart.
